U16’s – Brackley Town v Deddington Town

Following the previous weeks defeat, this was always going to be a test of the spirit of the Brackley Team. With Jack and Harry D both out with Injuries, Brackley started with Keegan, Jamie and Fabio on the bench. Deddington started with real composure, and applied plenty of pressure early on, dominating possession in the Brackley half for the first 20 minutes. Despite several attempts on goal, Deddington were unable to break down the solid defence of Brackley.

With 20minutes played substitutions were made, with Fabio and Keegan coming on in place of Alex and Josh I.  Keegan and Fabio linked up well, and created a chance soon after joining the game, with Keegan putting the ball just wide of the post. With 28 minutes played, Jenson made a great run and was on for goal before being held back by one of the Deddington defence, who picked up a card in the process. The free kick proved too much for Deddington to handle. A powerful free kick was saved by the keeper, but came out to Keegan who put the ball in the net to see Brackley take the lead. This gave a boost to the performance of Brackley, which saw a shot from Dan go just wide soon after the restart.

With just 2 minutes remaining of the first half, Ollie went on a surging run, only to see the ball forced out of play by the Deddington defence. This was soon followed up by a great header from Keegan, to secure his 2nd goal of the game.  With just seconds remaining on the clock in the first half, Brackley gained possession again, and the confident Keegan had a powerful strike to make it 3-0 going into half time. Harry P-W picked up an injury in the first half following a crunching tackle and his relentless work rate, and was substituted along with Ollie at half time.

The second half was a little less exciting, but Brackley remained composed throughout despite another strong spell of pressure from Deddington. With a penalty appeal denied by the Ref, Deddington were unlucky to not get a foot back in the game. With 49 mins played, Deddington forced a great save from Jamie, who was kept busy during the 2nd half.

As Brackley settled down again, they started to apply more pressure. A good pressing move from Jenson, Fabio and Alex created an opportunity after 60 mins. The game was end to end for the last 20 minutes. Deddington had a great chance to pull one back from a free kick, which was fired over the bar. With 10 minutes to play, Jenson was taken off to make room for Owen. Some positional changes saw Dan taking the role as striker. Just seconds after a long ball from Jamie cut through the Deddington defence, and Dan was well composed to beat the keeper to make it 4.0 after 72 minutes.

Brackley won a corner with 74 minutes played, which was finished well by Owen to make it 5.0. Deddington never gave up, and continued to work hard despite having no substitutes available for the game, and were unlucky not to score when a great strike hit the post and bounced out. Another shot from Deddington was tipped over the bar by Jamie on the 78th minute. The game ended 5-0, with a fantastic defensive performance from Brackley. Josh H had probably his best game of the season so far, and James, Ollie, Niall all put in solid performances.

Deddington played some good football at times, and will be disappointed not have taken anything from the game, but Brackley should be very proud today. The second home game with a clean sheet, and a Brilliant return following the previous weeks result. Well done to all of the boys today – great attitude, team spirit, and a comment from the opposition ‘Your players are ambassadors of the game!’. Lets keep it going now……
